This has been a monumental election season not only in the U.S. but all around the world! Roommates, if you recall in June, former Bad Boy rapper Shyne announced he was running for a seat on the House of Representatives in his home country of Belize. He even had support from his former boss Diddy. Well, there is good news–Shyne won!
Shyne shared a lengthy message on Instagram yesterday saying, ”FROM HIP HOP TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES!!! Thank you, MESOPOTAMIA!!! It is with the greatest humility that I accept this victory for us! We won today! This victory is for all those who are just like me in Mesopotamia, Belize, and the world over! All those who have taken a fall! All those who have stumbled on their life’s journey.”
The newly elected representative is ”keeping it in the family” as he will take over his uncle Honorable Michael Finnegan’s seat. Hon. Michael announced he would not be running for reelection in 2017 and was confidently expressed his support for his nephew while he campaigned, according to Revolt.
Shyne hails from a very prominent family in Belize. His father is the Belize Prime Minister Dean Barrow, who also became the nation’s first Black prime minister in 2008.
Shyne gained public support from Diddy on Instagram In June when he shared an Instagram post stating, “BELIZE I’m so proud of my brother @shyne_bz and the journey he is on. He is running for the House of Representatives and needs your support. #BadBoy4Life.”
Shyne had completely turned his life around since his 1999 conviction, where he was charged with attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment and deported back home to Belize.
Roommates, let’s congratulate Shyne for his victory in his new political career.
