#Roommates, after months of anticipation the trailer for the upcoming remake of the classic 1992 horror film “Candyman” has finally been released. While the film, from director/producer Jordan Peele looks amazing, fans are obsessed with the trailer’s use of a Destiny’s Child classic.
Jordan Peele has repeatedly proved that he knows how to reinvent the horror genre—and the latest trailer for his remake of “Candyman” serves as the latest example. Scored with a creepy, stripped down version of Destiny’s Child’s 1999 hit “Say My Name,” the new trailer gives you enough of a glimpse of what to expect without giving any of the forthcoming twists and turns away.
The “Candyman” remake will reportedly pay a lot of homage to the 1992 version, as original “Candyman” himself, Tony Todd, will be reprising his famous role. As you’ll recall, the plot of the first film centers on the appearance of the deadly title character, who appears to wreak bloody havoc every time someone dares to utter his name five times in front of the mirror.
The Jordan Peele remake is also once again set in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green housing projects—but this time, the 2020 “re-imagining” will center on the gentrification of the North Side Chicago neighborhood.
Director Nia Costa, said this about the film:
“Gentrification is what helped us to re-imagine the story because Cabrini-Green is gone. The movie from the ’90s has a vision of Cabrini-Green where it’s sort of on its way to being knocked down.”
“Candyman” stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Us” and “Watchmen”,) Teyonah Parris (“If Beale Street Could Talk”,) Vanessa Williams (“Soul Food and “New Jack City,) Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (“Misfits”) and Colman Domingo (“Fear the Walking Dead”).
“Candyman” is set to hit theaters on June 12th.
