#Roommates, it’s almost time! As we previously reported last year, Netflix has been hard at work to bring fans a scripted series about the life of slain Tejano singer Selena…and the first look at what to expect has just arrived.
Netflix is once again coming through with quality content and this time it surrounds the life and tragic death of singer Selena Quintanilla, whose story was first told in the popular 1997 biopic, “Selena” starring Jennifer Lopez. In this version, Selena’s story is told in a limited series that is set in two parts, for a total of six episodes. Taking on the title role is “The Walking Dead” actress Christian Serratos in her first leading performance.
Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla serves as an executive producer on the series—that is said to chronicle Selena’s rise to stardom in a coming-of-age story examining the life-changing choices facing her and her family as she navigates fame and the music business.
In an official statement about the series, Suzette had this to say:
“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history, and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives. We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”
Rounding out the cast of the series, includes: Richard Chavira as Selena’s father, Abraham, Gabriel Chavarria as her older brother/music producer, A.B., Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette, her sister, Seidy Lopez as Marcella, her mother and Madison Taylor Baez as the younger version of her.
The project doesn’t haven’t an official release date, but will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2020.
