#Roommates, your possible new TV obsession has arrived! As her hit, Emmy-winning series “How To Get Away With Murder” comes to an end in a few months, Viola Davis has already landed her next television gig—and we have our forever First Lady Michelle Obama to thank.
Fans are gearing up to say a permanent farewell to Annalise Keating, the character that Viola Davis made legendary on ABC’s “How To Get Away With Murder”—but, there is good news because she won’t be away from our TV screens for too long. According to @HollywoodReporter, Showtime has officially ordered a full season of the drama series “First Ladies” in which Viola will play Michelle Obama.
“First Ladies” is described as an anthology series that focuses on the personal and political lives of the country’s most famous First Ladies. Season one is set to focus on Eleanor Roosevelt (wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt,) Betty Ford (wife of President Gerald Ford) and of course, Michelle Obama (wife of our forever President Barack Obama.)
We previously reported that back in August “First Ladies” had shot a pilot episode and was shopping the series to networks, well it worked because Viola will portray Michelle and we think the casting is genius. Viola and her husband Julius Tennon will also executive produce the series.
Showtime Entertainment President, Jana Winograde, expressed her excitement at Viola being part of the cable network’s family:
“Throughout our history, presidents’ spouses have wielded remarkable influence, not only on the nation’s leaders but on the country itself. “First Ladies” fits perfectly within the Showtime wheelhouse of drama and politics, revealing how much personal relationships impact both domestic and global events. Having Viola Davis play Michelle Obama is a dream come true, and we couldn’t be luckier to have her extraordinary talent to help launch this series.”
Since the project is still in its early stages, no premiere date has been announced…but we’ll be waiting!
Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
