Michael Costello is a young famous American Couture Designer who was a finalist on Project Runway Season 8. Since then, his name is now mentioned among the best in fashion and his designs have been seen on A-List Celebrities including Queen Bey (Beyonce).
Lately Michael Costello has been in the middle of some drama honey! He recently fell out with his muse & friend from Project Runway Tia Shipman when he publicly accused her of not being a loyal friend. He then blocked her on social media and posted a screenshot to let everyone know about it!
Now, a fairly new Designer Ellae Elisque , accused Michael Costello of stealing her designs! Now hold on because this is where it gets juicy. The Designer behind Ellae Elisque posted a receipt that proved that Michael Costello purchased one of her designs from her online store. Shortly after he made the purchase, she claims he posted a picture of a model wearing her exact designs…but he tried to pass it off as his own “Mini Diana” design.
(top right corner is the post that Michael Costello made with his model allegedly wearing Ellae Elisque. Bottom right corner is the dress made by Ellae Elisque. Left is the receipt of payment from Michael Costello to Ellae Elisque.)
Here’s What Ellae Elisque Said:
When I received payment from Michael Costello a week ago, one of my favorite designers, I was at a loss for words. I was excited but a TAD confused (this man makes dresses for beyonce)…..a week later he literally bought my EXACT dress, put it on his model, and took pictures in his showroom as if he designed this piece himself. It’s so disheartening I couldn’t help but shed a tear.
Judging from the pictures alone, it looks like the model Michael Costello posted was in fact wearing the dress he purchased from Ellae Elisque….but hold up…plot twist!
You know Michael Costello had to fire back at ms. thang! He posted a picture that proved that he was the first to create the design last year with the caption:
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Our Diana gown made by Michael and Stephanie over a year ago. We love as a team to inspire.”
When M. Costello and Stephanie made this design…it was before Ellae Elisque even existed. In fact, it looks like Ellae Elisque should have done some research before they decided to say that the famous M. Costello replicated their designs. One thing that we still haven’t gotten to the bottom of is why Costello would purchase her knock off dress and pass it off as his own? We need answers for that one!

Those are not the same dresses, her dress has boning in it holding up the single cup his does not and has a mesh panel in the center on the peekaboo part now Idk why he would purchase her dress, maybe to deconstruct it to try and figure out how to use boning instead (his construction was a weak point on project runway) but he for sure didnt take the dress he ordered on his model.
These are different dresses, so no, he did not check her. Nor did he explain why he purchased her dress and tried to play it off as his. He is not the original of these type of styled dresses. So honestly z every fashion designer is replicating designers from decades ago.
He clearly put the quotes around the name “DIANA” as sarcasm. .. I seriously doubt it was to be passed off as his own.
No, he put the quotation marks around Diana because that is the name of his dress. They teach you that in English when using titles lol
NO.. ACTUALLY.. that is only for the titles of published written or musical works… maybe someone should have paid a little more attention during that class… Along with all of those who up voted that foolishness. Brush up on your own MLA format before you attempt to correct someone else. Thanks.
Like I said, he used the quotation marks because that is the name of his dress, not because he was being sarcastic. Titles are for when there is a name for something, I don’t care if he used them correctly are not. Let me give you a vote since you want one so bad.
Like I SAID… let’s know what we’re talking about when we try to correct people…since you recall so much about English class.
My comment was directed to you trying to prove a point where obviously there wasn’t one to be made… not a accurate one anyway
So, let me give you an upvote back for trying.
Then you should know that by putting “quotes” around something is only to be used when referring to a title of something or when you are quoting someone else. The original designer of the purple dress doesn’t call this dress Diana, nor has she ever done so. So, lol yeah. Don’t be mad, it’s ok.
You’re so simple its almost cute. People use air quotes, or as some call them, finger quotes all the time in expressing sarcasm. How exactly should that be portrayed in written text? oh? okay.. and how is it others can catch the shade in the post but you can’t. LOL Quite honestly I could care less..
My point from the beginning is you trying to come out of left field with your misinformation to correct someone. Here we are again.
He clearly came with receipts soon after that the two dresses were rather similar AND that his dress came first. LOL. So get up out your feelings and as i’ve said on multiple occasions– KNOW what you’re talking about before trying to correct others. How about you relax & Get your life Kay.. because GIRL…
Lol what do you mean relax & get out of my feelings? I’m not even the least bit bothered lol. Clearly you’re the one agitated. He didn’t provide any receipts. He bought that dress and then put it on his model in his show room and said it was his design, which it is not. Michael, is that you? Lol ok I’m done. Peace
And if you believe that I have an island to sell you. Designers when they think their design is copied, buy items they feel were copied for comparison, and then pursue legal action. These fools took
the dress, put it on their model, and attempted to sell it as their own. I have never heard of that happening in my life in fashion until this incident, and then you have aspiring designers submit designs to stylists only to have the stylist style a similar version on their clients. If they weren’t trying to sell it as their own, they wouldn’t have been so quick to delete that pic once the girls IG post went viral. They named it Diana not to mock this girl, but to sell off the dress as their own.
I saw the same exact design in Anthony Vaccarello’s Fall 2012 collection. So I find it amusing that Michael Costello is claiming to take credit for any design, he did not create that design.
Oop.
Sips tea.
The designs are similar but hers is much better in my opinion. It’s a more streamline fit and doesn’t have all of the extra straps. Even if he did make a similar design it does not explain why he’s claiming her specific design as his own.
You are also skipping over the fact that he called people that questioned him about the dress, “N”
