Roommates, sadly it’s been a full year since the untimely and tragic passing of Naya Rivera, who died as a result of an accidental drowning, and fans have showed their love and support for her by flooding social media with tributes. Naya Rivera’s family also spoke out publicly about how they are coping with the loss exactly one year later—and also how her young son has been dealing with his mother’s absence.
During a recent appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Naya Rivera’s mother Yolanda Previtire, stated that even though a year has passed, the sadness is still often too much to bear. “Sometimes, we’re afraid of the sorrow being so heavy that we’re afraid for our own self, ’cause this is hard. There are no words to describe what we’re going through. All we know is we have each other,” she said.
She continued, adding:
“I feel Naya’s energy constantly telling me, ‘Mom, be happy. Don’t cry. I’m OK. Go get Josey. Have fun.’ And I feel that it’s coming from her. I literally wake up every morning, and it’s almost like a restart button, and I have to shake it off, one foot at a time. And here we are.”
Meanwhile Naya’s siblings also expressed their emotions of her heartbreaking death. Her sister Nickayla Rivera, said “If we could go back, we’d hug a little bit harder,” while her brother Mychal stated “One year without you, one year closer to when we will meet you again. Your endless energy lives on. May you continue to rest so graciously, Naya.”
We continue to send our condolences to Naya Rivera’s loved ones.
