Reality television star Evelyn Lozada has revealed that she and entrepreneur LaVon Lewis have called off their engagement. As The Shade Room previously reported, news of the couple’s forthcoming union initially surfaced in March.
At the time, it was revealed that Lozada met Lewis by participating as a bachelorette on Peacock’s dating series, ‘Queens Court.’ The pair had gotten engaged in December 2022 during the show’s taping.
According to US Weekly, the 47-year-old reality star shared the news with the outlet on Thursday. Lozada explained that “things” with her and Lewis “went so fast,” and she felt there was a bit of “disconnect” in their relationship.
“Things went so fast. Six months later, we were engaged, and I just felt a little bit of a disconnect,” Lozada told the outlet.
Lozada expanded on her feeling of “disconnect” with Lewis by explaining that things didn’t “feel a hundred percent,” as they’re both from “two different places.”
“… it just doesn’t feel a hundred percent,” Lozada said. “[He] and I are from two different places. I’m from the Bronx, New York. He’s from Alabama. So, there was a little disconnect there, too.”
Additionally, the 47-year-old also reflected on her and her ex-fiancé’s long-distance relationship. As The Shade Room previously reported, in March. Lozada shared that she lives in Los Angeles, California, while Lewis resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
“And the distance, he lives in Atlanta, that was another thing that was really, really difficult,” the 47-year-old mother of two continued. “He has a son that is, I believe, in his first year of high school or going to high school. It was a lot of moving parts and it just started becoming difficult, and I was just like, ‘I don’t want to keep this going just for the world.'”
According to US Weekly, ‘Queens Court’ featured a “six-week filming schedule.” Lozada explained that she and Lewis tried to “spend as much time” as they could getting to know each other on the show. However, it, ultimately, wasn’t enough.
“Everything’s going fast,” Lozada reiterated to the outlet. “You’re asking 1,000,001 questions when you’re dating these different guys on the show. And we tried to spend as much time as we could. He would travel here to L.A. at least once a month.”
As the interview continued, Lozada explained that splitting from Lewis was “the right thing to do.” However, the 47-year-old added that she is “happy” that they can “be mature and friends.”
Furthermore, Lozada shared that she hopes Lewis “finds an amazing woman” before adding that she’ll even “be at his wedding.”
“I hope he finds an amazing woman. I’ll be at his wedding. He is a great person,” Lozada told US Weekly.
Before concluding, Lozada reiterated that she’s “happy” they’re not in a “negative space” because “all breakups don’t have to end up like that.”
“I’m just happy that he’s not bitter or we’re not in a negative space. I feel like all breakups don’t have to end up like that,” the 47-year-old said.
As The Shade Room previously reported, news of Evelyn Lozada’s engagement to entrepreneur LaVon Lewis was revealed in March. According to PEOPLE, Lewis proposed to Lozada on December 10, 2022, which was also her 47th birthday.
The 42-year-old reportedly shared his proposal to Lozada during her birthday party, where friends and family were in attendance.
Lewis summarized the moment for PEOPLE.
“The thing about Evelyn is, it is very hard to surprise her. I told her to pack her bags, we’re going somewhere. She was blindfolded until she got to the front door,” the 42-year-old explained. She walked in to about 20 close friends and family and the big ‘marry me’ letters, roses on the ground, things like that.”
During the March interview, Lozada shared her surprise at the moment.
“I didn’t know that he was going to propose that day. I didn’t know what I was walking into,” the 47-year-old recalled. “He was being very sneaky and, in all honesty, I was a little irritated because I’m such an alpha female and I’m kind of like, ‘Why do I have to pack? Why do I have to do this?’ It was really, really difficult for me to just let go and allow him to do his thing.”
Ultimately, Lozada explained to the PEOPLE that she “never experienced this energy” with any of her previous partners.
“I’ve never experienced this energy. In hindsight, it’s clear, I had the wrong person in my life,” Lozada explained.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Lozada is a mother of two children from two prior relationships. Lewis is a father to a 13-year-old son. Initially, Lewis reportedly planned to relocate to Los Angeles once his son began high school.
