Dubai Reportedly Denies There Were Plans For An R. Kelly Concert

Recently R. Kelly was seen walking into court for a hearing on whether he could travel overseas to perform concerts as he currently faces sex abuse charges. R. Kelly’s lawyer asked the judge to hold the ruling on his request to travel to Dubai so that they could provide more information. Now Dubai is reportedly denying that there were any R. Kelly concerts scheduled.

According to NBC Chicago, on Sunday the Dubai government reportedly denied that R. Kelly had any planned concerts in the sheikhdom after he appeared in court to get permission from a judge to travel. Reportedly they also denied claims from his lawyer that he had plans to meet the sheikhdom’s ruling Al Maktoum family.

The government said in a statement, “Authorities in Dubai have not received any request for a performance by singer R. Kelly nor are there any venues that have been booked.”

As we previously reported, his next court date was set for May 7th.

In a court filing last week, R. Kelly’s lawyer reportedly said he needed to raise money as “he has struggled of late to pay his child support and other child-related expenses.”

According to NBC Chicago, the filing continued to state, “Before he was arrested Mr. Kelly had signed a contract to perform between 3-5 shows in Dubai, UAE, in April 2019. He requests permission to travel to Dubai for the shows. While there he is supposed to meet with the royal family.”

The filing reportedly did not go into detail about where the alleged performance was to take place in Dubai.
