A drunk man was arrested after urinating on another passenger while traveling from New York on a flight to India, according to local news outlet NDTV. This is for one of several recent mid-flight urinations in headlines recently.
The passenger in question allegedly urinated on the other passenger during an argument. Reports have not identified the passenger by name but describe him as an Indian national.
Local police arrested the perpetrator after the plane landed at the Delhi airport Monday night. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation stated it would further investigate the case.
Meanwhile, American Airlines allegedly confirmed a “disruption on board” on a flight bound for Delhi. Simple Flying published a statement on Monday that the airline reportedly provided.
“American Airlines flight 292 with service from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) was met by local law enforcement upon arrival in DEL due to a disruption on board,” it said. “We’re grateful to our crew members who are consistenyly dedicated to the safety and care of our customers and handled the circumstances with the upmost professionalism.”
The outlet reports that American Airlines had reported the incident before landing around 9 p.m. Monday evening.
Indian news agency Press Trust of India reports that the victim who was urinated on has since filed a formal complaint with the airline.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Airport Police Devesh Kumar Mahla claimed no complaint was lodged regarding someone urinating on another passenger.
“There was no corroborative evidence or complaint given by co-passengers regarding someone peeing on them,” Mahla said.
Monday’s case is the second such incident to be reported in two months on an American Airlines flight.
In March, Arya Vohra, an Indian student studying at a U.S. university, was banned from the airline after reportedly peeing on a co-passenger.
In November, Wells Fargo fired their India Branch VP, Shankar Mishra, after he allegedly urinated on an older woman mid-flight while intoxicated. The airline banned the Mumbai resident for 30 days as a result.
Last December, an Air India passenger reportedly urinated on an empty seat during a flight to Delhi from Paris, according to NDTV.
A March 2021 Forbes report claims that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other agencies implemented a massive fine plus possible jail time for anyone who urinates on their airline seat.
According to the Associated Press, that same month, a 24-year-old Colorado man who refused to wear a face mask proceeded to stand up and urinate in his seat area.
That man faced a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew and attendants, which carries a maximum term of 20 years in prison and a possible $250,000 fine.
