#Drake had a sit down with #DJSemtex for Beats 1’s OVO Sound Radio on Monday where the rapper finally addressed his “beef” he had with #MeekMill. It’s the first time that Drake has publicly spoken about why he went so hard on the Philly emcee and he reveals that he pretty much felt betrayed and was looking for revenge.
Drake has always been regarded as a talented songwriter, so he didn’t like that Meek Mill was trying to discredit all the work he had done when he was accused of having a ghostwriter. He told DJ Semtex that Meek creating the drama was a “terrible, impulsive decision” to make in front of the world, because he “wasn’t ready” for what was to come.
When Drake released #ChargedUp, he says it was a test to see how prepared Meek was and found that he wasn’t prepared at all. “I knew I had to retaliate, because I realized he was unprepared and when someone is unprepared you have to strike,” he said. That’s when the Six God released Back To Back and pretty much annihilated Meek’s career. He attributes using “wit and great writing” to the win. Then, Drake threw the ultimate shade. “DJs have to take a hit when you’re hosting a party, because they can’t play the biggest record of the night ’cause you’re standing there,” he said. “It hurt and I wanted it to hurt.”
The rapper continue, “You know how good I am at writing music, but you tried to not only spin the entire narrative of my career, but end my life and take food from my family and you didn’t even do it through music! You just talked or tweeted,” Drake explained. I had to really get revenge on that situation.” Oop!
Now that the situation is over, Drake doesn’t have any desire to ever become amicable with Meek Mill. You guys can check out the rest of the interview where Drizzy talks Grammy politics, Kanye’s rants, getting back with Nicki Minaj and more:
