Back in 2014 we all remember when former Clippers owner Donald Sterling was exposed for his offensive remarks about African Americans.
He was faced with immediate backlash and was banned from the NBA. His wife Shelly Sterling agreed to sell the team for $2 billion to Steve Ballmer. The day after Donald Sterling sued the NBA.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Sterling vowed to sue the NBA for the rest of his life. However, two years later and the legal battle has come to an end.
In his lawsuit Sterling claimed that there was a wide-range conspiracy to remove him as owner of the team after 33-years, and he was looking to gain more than $1 billion in damages.
Sterling’s lawyer, Bobby Samini, confirmed the settlement on Friday. He said, “Donald is pleased with the outcome and is looking forward to focusing on future endeavors.”
Details on the settlement were not immediately released.
A spokesperson for the NBA talked about the matter and said, “We are pleased that Mr. Sterling has dropped his lawsuit and that this matter is now over.”
Sterling is still facing another lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court by two different law firms. They were involved in the trial that made it possible for the Clippers to be sold. They claim that Sterling owes them more than $271,000.
