DMX’s Hometown Of Yonkers, New York Reportedly Considering Honoring Him With A Statue Or Street In His Memory—Mayor Also Says His Memorial Is Welcomed At Yonkers Raceway

#Roommates, as the world continues to mourn the death of legendary rapper/actor DMX, the first details of his memorial service and honoring his memory have been released. Reportedly, DMX’s family wants a large venue to host his memorial service and the Mayor of his hometown is open to the idea—and also honoring his memory with a permanent statue or street name.

According to @TMZ, the city of Yonkers, New York is committed to make sure that hometown hero DMX’s memory lives on. Reportedly, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano recently stated that the city is considering honoring DMX with either a statue created in his image or a street named after him to honor his legacy. Mayor Spano says that he’s open to either idea, but the final decision will largely depend on what his family wants to do..

However, that’s not all, as the early details of DMX’s memorial service have also been released. A source close to his family confirmed that both a private and public memorial will take place, with details reportedly being finalized early next week. Mayor Spano stated that he thinks that Yonkers Raceway would be the perfect place to host X’s public memorial, since it’s the largest outdoor venue in the city, with a seating capacity of 7,500—although due to COVID-19 guidelines the venue would only be filled 20% of the way.

As we previously reported, DMX passed away at the age of 50 after being removed from life support at a White Plains, New York hospital. Releasing a statement to XXL, his family confirmed the news.

The statement read, “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.”

We continue to send our condolences to his family during this difficult time.
