Early Monday (May 6), DJ Vlad walked back his threats to report a Black Princeton professor to her employer. Vlad and Morgan Jerkins got into it on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend after she suggested speaking on the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef wasn’t his place.
“Since it’s Monday, let me clear the air and state that I never had any intention of filing a complaint to Princeton for former professor Morgan Jerkins saying that white people aren’t allowed to comment on Kendrick Lamar’s music. She trolled me and I trolled back. At the end of the day, it created an interesting discussion about race relations in America. I will be discussing it further in my future interviews,” Vlad wrote.
Unlike his other posts, though, Vlad did not tag Princeton University in his clarification — a fact Jerkins called out in her response.
“A lie. He tagged my employer multiple times with the intention to professionally harm me. I didn’t troll. I centered Black people in a discussion on hip-hop and told him to stand down bc it’s not his space. He backtracking bc he miscalculated. Btw, stop contacting my family,” she wrote.
As previously reported, Kendrick Lamar peppered Drake with multiple accusations in the three disses he released this past weekend. One of the accusations of being a “culture vulture” is now also hitting home for DJ Vlad.
Black X is dragging the podcaster for how he handled Morgan Jerkins when she suggested he stay out of Black folks’ business on Saturday. Online users are calling out his popularity in hip-hop and Black celebrity journalism, despite being a white man.
“Kendrick’s ‘Not Like Us’ needed a better mix. It takes away from the song,” Vlad posted on May 4.
Jerkins quoted his post, writing, “You are WHITE. This is a BLACK FOLK AFFAIR.” Vlad hopped on the defense, pointing out Jerkins listed profession as a Princeton CWR faculty member in her X bio.
“Wait, so a professor at @Princeton is telling me that a white person shouldn’t be allowed to voice their opinion about Hip Hop? Is that how you interact with your students,” he wrote back.
Jerkins clarified that his opinion is “not needed” in the beef conversation, insisting that all talks should “center Black people” and not Vlad. In his response, he accused her of trying to change her words, tagged Princeton, and threatened to reach out to the university on Monday (May 6) over their exchange.
After that, Jerkins went IN on the podcaster, accusing him of being retaliatory.
“Semester’s over and my contract has been completed. But thanks for trying to bully me out of a job for centering Black people because you got your feelings hurt. Very retaliatory, huh? Nice tactic!”
Tagging Princeton again, DJ Vlad shot back that professors have a “permanent record,” adding that he attended Berkeley.
“People spew ignorant & bigoted comments at you publicly and then act like they’re getting bullied when they get a response. Typical victim mentality. Go ahead and take that @princeton out of your profile, sweetie. You just admitted it’s not even true anymore. lol,” DJ Vlad wrote.
Jerkins clapped back, saying that she had also graduated from Princeton. He then wished her luck with working at the university again, and suggested that they wouldn’t be okay with her “telling non-Black students to shut the f**k up about anything hip hop related because of their skin color.”
Morgan Jerkins accused him of missing the point. She then called out Vlad’s decision to respond to her, belittle her academic background, and threaten her job despite all the other “much harsher” critiques he received.
Tagging Princeton AGAIN, Vlad clapped back, accusing the professor of “spewing bigotry.”
As Black X continues to eat up Vlad, they’re also kiki-ing about the fact that Morgan is the niece of producer, rapper, and songwriter Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins. IYKYK!
