Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ was the groundbreaking track in his battle against Drake. Yet, DJ Mustard has now revealed he had no idea the record was on its way!
Per The Shade Room, Kendrick Lamar had the innanet shook when he released ‘Not Like Us’ on (May 4). K. Dot dropped the DJ Mustard-produced diss record just hours after dropping his third track, ‘Meet The Grahams.’
Now that the chart-topping anthem has achieved significant success, DJ Mustard is sharing how he first learned about the song. In an interview with Billboard, Mustard revealed five facts about ‘Not Like Us.’ The Los Angeles-born record producer also stated that he was not in the studio with Kendrick when he created it.
“I heard the song when everybody heard it. I never heard it before. I wasn’t in the studio with him. I had never heard that song. So when everybody else heard it, I heard it.”
While discussing the hit record, the Grammy-nominated DJ also mentioned that he did not sample Nas’ ‘Ether’ beat and it only took him 30 minutes to create the beat.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Kendrick Lamar shut down the West Coast with his ‘Pop Out’ concert on Juneteenth. The award-winning rapper put on for LA as he headlined a three-hour set at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.
K.Dot had the city on smash as he turned up on stage alongside several surprise guests, including Tyler The Creator, Dom Kennedy, Ty Dolla $ign, Roddy Rich, YG, Dr. Dre, Tommy the Clown, Blxst, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Steve Lacy, and Ab-Soul.
Of course, Mustard was in attendance for the iconic moment! He joined Kendrick onstage along with other celebrities and athletes as he performed ‘Not Like Us’ five times in a row. King Kenny also took time to acknowledge the loss of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and rapper Nipsey Hussle.
