DJ Cipha Sounds’ uncensored opinions on his latest podcast may have cost him his job with Hot 97.
He made it evident while speaking with his colleague, Peter Rosenberg, on their Juan Epstein podcast, that he was unhappy with how he didn’t get Angie Martinez’s ( who also recently left Hot 97 and crossed over to Power 105.1) coveted time slot over miscommunication with management:
“I never knew if it was mine if I could make it mine, I would’ve loved it. One boss told me one thing, another boss told me another thing, they then fired one of those bosses, another boss came in an told me one things, and then a boss of another station came in and became our boss and told me another thing. All nice people, all different opinions on what the show should be and how it should run.”
He also revealed that their long time rivals, Power 105.1 had initially offered him a job but turned it down because he felt loyal to his station. As far as the new girl, Nessa Nitty (who has been on MTV’s Girl Code and who has been chosen to succeed after Angie), he said he found it unfair that someone with seniority didn’t get the position.
“The girl who got the show, oh they’ve wanted her for a long time they have a hard on for her. So then why didn’t you tell me?”
Well ironically enough after just a day of the podcast, Hot 97 released this statement, “For Immediate Release: Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM.”
