Earlier today Bill and Melinda Gates shockingly revealed that they are getting a divorce after 27 years of marriage, and now more details about their divorce have become available.
TMZ obtained the divorce documents and it revealed that Melinda was the one to file and cited that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.” The documents also asked the judge to rule that their marriage officially ended “as of the date in the separation contract.” Although the date of their separation was not mentioned, the site made it clear that documents revealed that the former couple does not have a prenup.
They noted that the only written agreement that they have related to the divorce is the separation agreement. It was also noted that Melinda is not asking for spousal support and that they are asking for an April 2022 trial date.
As previously reported, both Bill and Melinda shared statements on their social media accounts announcing the end of their marriage. Although they have agreed to end their relationship as husband and wife, they will still continue to work together through their foundation.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they said. “Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.”
They are estimated to be worth more than $130 billion.
