Digital Underground Co-Founder Shock G Passes Away At The Age Of 57

Roommates, we are sending our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the legendary Shock G, who was a co-founder of the hip-hop group Digital Underground.

Details about his passing are unclear at the moment. According to TMZ, he was found deceased in a hotel room in Tampa, FL on Thursday. There were no signs of trauma. Shock G’s father said an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Social media has already started to fill with tributes to Shock G from other fellow rappers. Chopmaster J, who was one of the original members of the group, confirmed Shock G’s passing on Instagram and said, “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

Throughout his career, Shock G played a prominent role in the development of other artists’ careers. Probably one of the most notable would be Tupac Shakur, who started off working with the group before the launch of his legendary career.

Some of the other members of hip-hop that have started to pay tribute include Pete Rock, Biz Markie, Talib Kweli, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Ice Cube, and many others.

Shock G has now become the third loss that the hip-hop community has endured during the month of April. Earlier this month DMX passed away at the age of 50. A week after, former Bad Boy artist Black Rob passed away at the age of 51.

We are keeping Shock G’s loved ones lifted in prayer during this time.
