Beyoncé may have subliminally mentioned her husband Jay Z & that elevator incident, hinting at his alleged cheating scandal and infamous fight with her sister Solange on her new album “Renaissance.”
The 40-year-old singer released her seventh studio album at midnight on Thursday, however, fans got an early listen after it was leaked online Tuesday.
On Renaissance, the mother-of-three seems to mention her relationship with the rapper, which has spanned over two decades, on several of the album’s tracks, singing “nobody’s perfect” while adding they “don’t need the world’s acceptance.”
She had previously explored the topic regarding her husband’s alleged infidelity back in 2016, when she referenced “Becky with the good hair” on her album “Lemonade.”
Jay Z had referred to the scandal himself the following year, saying he went “into survival mode” and had to “shut down emotionally,” which led to his infidelity.
On the track “Alien Superstar,” the singer seems to reference accepting lies from her spouse in the lyrics while keeping him hooked in the marriage.
Keep him addicted, lies on his lips, I lick it.
Beyonce also took a jab at the ever-present media scrutiny regarding their relationship, singing “we don’t need the world’s acceptance. They’re too hard on me, they’re too hard on you, boy” on the track “Plastic On The Sofa” off of her newly-released album.
“Boy, I know you can’t help but to be yourself around me, yourself around me. And I know nobody’s perfect so I’ll let you be, I’ll let you be…. It’s the way that you wear your emotions on both of your sleeves, ’til the face you make when I tell you that I had to leave,” she sings.
She appeared unconcerned at the thought of her husband repeating such unfaithfulness, singing “I’m one of one, I’m number one. I’m the only one.”
‘Don’t even waste your time trying to compete with me. No one else in this world can think like me. I’m twisted, contradicted, keep him addicted.’
Fans also think the singer also makes mention of the now-infamous elevator fight between her husband and sister, Solange. Video emerged back in 2014 of Solange attacking Jay Z at the Met Gala.
Beyonce and Jay Z released a statement, calling it a “private family matter.”
In the new single “Cozy,” she references the scandal, saying, “she’s a god, she’s a hero, she survived, all she been through, confident and lethal.”
“Might I suggest you don’t f**k with my sis because she comfortable. Comfortable in my skin, cozy with who I am.”
Roomies, did you catch any of these references on Renaissance?
