Lauren Podell, a reporter for WDIV-TV in Detroit resigned from her position this week after she allegedly used the n-word off air when speaking with a co-worker.
According to The Detroit News, Podell’s resignation was announced through email from Marla Drutz, the Vice President and General Manager of WDIV-TV.
She said, “This is a personnel manner and as such, other than confirming her resignation, we have no comment.”
The incident was brought to light when Detroit Political Consultant Sam Riddle and Rev. W.J. Rideout demanded an apology from the station. On Thursday Riddle held a demonstration for what he calls “systematic racism that flourishes in mainstream media in Metro Detroit.”
According to Riddle’s Twitter page, Podell allegedly said, “I am tired of these n*ggers killing one another in Detroit.”
Back in November 2013, Podell dropped the f-word on air while struggling with a piece of equipment. Podell joined the news station as a traffic reporter back in December 2007.
