A heartwarming moment between a Delta crew member and a nervous passenger has gone viral, with many praising the young man for going above and beyond his normal scope of duties.
The airline worker, identified as Floyd Dean-Shannon, and the tearful passenger were both on a flight from Charlotte to New York City when the latter began experiencing what sounds to be an anxiety attack due to a fear of flying.
Floyd took a seat in the aisle and held her hand while calmly assuaging her nervousness.
“Check out this gem of a flight attendant that was on our flight from CLT to JFK,” passenger Molly Lee, of Raleigh, North Carolina, wrote on Facebook.
“This woman was so nervous about flying, so he explained every sound and bump and even sat here holding her hand when it still got to be too much for her.”
A picture of the moment has since gone viral, with nearly a half of a million views and over 226K likes as of Monday.
“Floyd Dean-Shannon deserves a raise!” Lee said about Floyd’s act of kindness.
Lee went on to tell news station WXII-12 that she was flying to JFK International Airport on Jan. 14 when she overheard a woman expressing her fear of flying to other passengers.
That’s when she says Floyd immediately jumped into action: “I’ve got you,” he was heard saying.
“He took notice of that and said, ‘I’ve got you,’ and just was very reassuring, just told her not to worry, it was going to be totally safe and she was tearing up,” she told the outlet.
Lee said Floyd sat and comforted her for about 10 minutes until she began to ease up a bit. She went on to say she “had to take a picture because it was moving.”
“I had to take a picture because it was moving. It was so beautiful to see somebody just extend their heart like that to a stranger,” she added.
She continued: “With every little noise, she’d be like, ‘What’s that?’ He’s like, ‘That’s OK. That’s just the jet bridge pulling away’ or whatever the case may be. And that really helped her,” according to ABC11.
Lee said that Floyd deserves “everyone’s praise, admiration…” and that she is “so happy he’s getting that recognition.
“I just really hope that Floyd gets what he deserves, which is everyone’s love, everyone’s praise, everyone’s admiration. I’m so happy that he’s getting that recognition. And I really hope it leads to good things for him,” she said.
Social media praised Floyd Dean-Shannon as a hero and that “we need more people like” him.
“People like this make the world go round,” one person wrote. “Wow!! We need more people like that,” another said.
“This is LOVE & kindness at its BEST!” a third commented.
What do you think, Roomies? Did the airline worker go above-and-beyond for the passenger, or should all flight crew be so accommodating?
