Delta Air Lines Temporarily Bans Checked Firearms For Flights Into Washington D.C. Area Airports Leading Up To Joe Biden’s Inauguration

Roommates, airlines are reportedly taking extra precautions leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. Although many Americans have urged that the ceremony take place virtually in light of the pandemic and the violence that took place at the Capitol last week, the inauguration will still be held in person.

According to TMZ, Delta Air Lines recently announced it will be banning firearms in checked luggage for all passengers who are flying into D.C. area airports. The temporary ban beings Saturday, Jan 16th, and will last until Jan. 23rd. The new precaution is being taken due to safety concerns.

“To help ensure the safety of customers and employees, Delta will not allow firearms in checked bags for flights to the D.C. area Jan. 16-23,” a message to Delta customers reads.

A Delta spokesperson also added that “weighing the violence we witnessed in the Capitol last week” contributed to the temporary policy. The ban reportedly applies to all flights going to the Ronald Reagan National Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Dulled International Airport and Richmond International Airport.

United, American, and Alaska Airlines have all joined Delta in the gun ban.

the gun ban is not the only heightened security measure that airlines are going to be taking, however. Many of the airports in the D.C. area are choosing to sell fewer tickets, increase staffing, and even relocating crew members to hotels outside of the downtown D.C. area.

As we previously reported, Airbnb also announced a plan to prevent rioters and hate groups from making reservations in the area during the time of the inauguration.
