Dave East turned himself in to New York City police today after being hit with a misdemeanor assault charge.
According to TMZ, the incident allegedly happened back in July while leaving a party cruise. East is being accused of punching a 28-year-old man named Joel Rosario near Pier 40 at Hudson River Park while he was walking along the marina.
Rosario claims he was left with a laceration above his left eye and he has no idea why. According to reports, Rosario said they didn’t interact, have an argument or altercation on the boat and didn’t even know who the Harlem rapper was before he allegedly assaulted him. Police reportedly identified the rapper after investigating the incident.
In response to the incident, East surrendered to the cops this morning and sources say he was charged and released. TMZ reports that he’s due back in court in December.
When asked about the case, Dave East’s attorney Stacey Richman said is client is “an absolute gentleman.”
“We appeared as requested at the police precinct and we look forward to reviewing the criminal court complaint and investigating,” Richman said. “My client is an absolute gentleman.”
In an instagram post from the same night, East shared a picture of his cut thumb and wrote: “I just be tryna chill.” In video footage, you can clearly see there was a lot of commotion happening on and off of the boat.
This new legal trouble comes right before the release of East’s joint project with Styles P, which is titled “Beloved” and is scheduled for a release this Friday (October 5th, 2018.)
Roommates, we will keep you posted as more details in the case are released. Check out footage from the night below.
