Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield are reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming film about Black Panther activist Fred Hampton.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Coogler is on board to produce “Jesus Was My Homeboy,” under Warner Bros. alongside Charles King’s Macro. Shaka King is on board to direct and produce from the script he helped pen along with Will Berson.
If the deal goes through, Daniel will reportedly play the role of Fred Hampton, the activist and revolutionary, who served as the chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther party. He was unfortunately assassinated at the age of 21 during a “coordinated raid by a tactical unit with orders from the FBI and Chicago Police.”
Lakeith will reportedly play the role of William O’Neal, “the FBI informant who infiltrated the Black Panthers and provided information that assisted in Hampton’s assassination.”
The film will focus on the rise of Fred Hampton as well as his death, told from the perspective of Williams O’ Neal.
Daniel, Lakeith, and Ryan have all reached their own individual success on their previous projects. As many of us know, Daniel was the breakout star of Jordan Peele’s 2017 film “Get Out,” and he went on to star in other major films, including 2018’s “Black Panther,” which was directed by Ryan Coogler. “Black Panther” has been winning big during this award season and has even earned a total of six nominations for the 2019 Oscar’s.
Lakeith stars on the hit FX series, Atlanta alongside Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry and Zazie Beetz. Last year he had the starring role in the film “Sorry to Bother You.”
