The good thing about family is that they always have your back –even when you’ve offended your race on national television.
So y’all know the backlash Stacey has been receiving since her comment on Fox; clap back season has been in full effect, honey! She might not hear the end of this one for a long while! But at least she knows she has at least one person publicly in her corner –by default–Dame Dash.
So Dame recent did an interview with Dr. Boyce Watkins and basically said that Stacey has a right to her opinion but she’s low key cooning for Fox News.
“…I’m used to it. Stacey always saying something that’s going to evoke some emotion especially when it comes to the culture,” he said. “Stacey is Stacey. It’s annoying having a cousin that looks like that and has an opinion and works for Fox News.”
Dr. Watkins basically was asking Dame his views on Stacey’s comments from a cousin’s point of view. Of all the people who’ve responded, Dame may the best person to defend her because he gave his opinion on how he felt she was wrong but also how she was misunderstood to an extent.
He felt as though, from what he knows about Stacey as a person, and from the nature of her situation, working for Fox News that she was, in a nutshell, insinuating that Black people shouldn’t be offended by the Oscar’s lacking diversity when we have stations like BET who pride themselves in predominately black programming and operation.
“I don’t think she actually meant that there’s segregation. Her point was that things like BET, who does things for black peoples shouldn’t get mad when white people [also] have their own.”
He then rebutted his own statement by saying, “I just think there needs to be a consciousness on how it affects ther people. I’d never say no crazy s— like that.”
Then he goes back to her defense by adding that he feels that the public would have received what she was saying completely differently if Stacey would have made her comments on a different platform and delivered in a slightly different manner. His opinion is that she made the statement in that manner because that’s what Fox paid her to do–so that she can evoke conversation amongst the black community.
Regardless of the technicalities or familial relationship, he said, “it’s really not the best thing to hear ‘Dash’ associated with coonin’. It is what it is man. That’s my life”
How are y’all feeling about Dame coming to Stacey’s rescue!? Let’s chat!
