Damon Dash is sharing his thoughts on the legal issues that continue to surround R. Kelly, and he says the disgraced R&B singer deserves to be in prison for “what he did” to Aaliyah.
Additionally, Dame is also speaking on how Jay-Z aligned himself with R. Kelly despite allegedly being aware of the situation between him and Aaliyah.
The Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder dished on the subject during a sit-down on That’s F***ed Up, which premiered on Wednesday (Jul. 19).
Co-host Alejandro González Charles specifically asked Dame if he had “any opinion on the R. Kelly situation,” as the disgraced singer has been found guilty of sex trafficking, racketeering, and child pornography.
In turn, Damon Dash didn’t hold back and proclaimed, “I think he’s where he belongs.” He also mentioned having personal knowledge of “what he did” to Aaliyah.
“I know Aaliyah, so I know what he did.”
When asked if he ever had any drama with R. Kelly over his treatment of Aaliyah, Dame said she asked him to “leave it alone completely.”
In fact, Damon confirmed that he and R. Kelly have even been in the same music video before, though Aaliyah would ask him not to start anything and refrain from appearing in the same shots with the “Bump n’ Grind” singer.
With Dame’s reservations about R. Kelly, he admitted that he was bothered by the fact that Jay-Z opted to do an album, The Best of Both Worlds, with him.
“When he did the record with him … I couldn’t believe he did a project with R. Kelly knowing that he had raped my girl.”
As a result, Damon noted that he didn’t want any part of the project.
“I’m not on there as an executive producer. … Just don’t put my name on that. I don’t want no money from that. If it is, put it towards the Aaliyah Foundation.”
At that point, co-host A.D. Dolphin remarked, “You was right, to be honest. Because once the s**t came out on R. Kelly, Jay-Z fled the scene.”
In turn, an unimpressed Damon Dash stated, “Yeah, whatever. But the point was he knew the whole time.”
