#Roommates, if you’re a video game fan then this news about classic video game “Super Mario 64” will certainly put a smile on your face. According to new reports, an unopened copy of “Super Mario 64” just made history by becoming the highest-selling video game of all-time after recently selling for a jaw-dropping $1.5 million!
@CNN reports, during a recent video game auction at Dallas, Texas auction house Heritage, incredibly popular Nintendo video game “Super Mario 64” officially entered the history books by selling for $1.5 million—which is now the most expensive video game sale of all-time. According to representatives from Heritage, “Super Mario 64” set the record over the weekend, as other legendary video game “The Legend Of Zelda,” set the previous record only a few days before when it was sold for $870,000.
Speaking about the historic sale, Heritage video game specialist Valarie McLeckie had the following to say:
“After the record-breaking sale of the first game in the Zelda series on Friday, the possibility of surpassing $1 million on a single video game seemed like a goal that would need to wait for another auction. We were shocked to see that it turned out to be in the same one! We are proud to have been a part of this historic event.”
Initially released back in 1996, “Super Mario 64” went on to become one of the highest-selling video games ever released by Nintendo—and it was also the first of the “Super Mario” editions to include 3D gameplay, which ushered in the popularity of 3D video games.
