The NYPD has proposed some new rules that would require cops to go the extra mile before frisking someone.
With the new rules in play, cops will be required to fill out a receipt with a tear off information card that displays their name, rank, command and shield number, handing it to whoever they stop.
The officer will also have to check one of seven boxes explaining why they stopped the person.
The new procedure is designed to force cops to have strong “reasonable suspicion” before they decide to stop and frisk someone.
The rules came about after a class action lawsuit in 2013, where plaintiffs felt they were targeted because of their race.
The receipt policy will begin on September 21st.
