Nearly six-and-a-half months after his untimely passing, it’s been revealed that fentanyl played a crucial role in Coolio’s death.
Coolio Reportedly Had Various Drugs In His System When He Died
According to TMZ, Jarez Posey—Coolio’s longtime manager—noted that the family recently got the news from the coroner.
In addition to fentanyl—a synthetic opioid that played a role in the deaths of stars like Michael K. Williams and Mac Miller—the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper reportedly had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system.

Posey adds that severe asthma and years-long cigarette usage further impacted Coolio’s health.
On the heels of this news, though, Posey notes that the rapper’s children—Brandi, Jackie, Melan, Christopher, Artis III, Darius, and Artisha—are committed to honoring his legacy. In fact, Coolio’s family reportedly has plans to pay tribute to him through future projects.
