One time for the City Boys, I think we may have found y’all poster boy.
A conman out of #GwinnettCounty, Georgia, is being accused of convincing a woman he met on Match.com to marry him in less than a week and scamming her out of $80,000.
Now police are searching for the man, identified as 35-year-old John Martin Hill, who has a warrant out for his arrest, @dailymail reports. He’s being charged with theft by deception after he reportedly posed as a millionaire and told the victim that he wanted to buy a house with her after dating for only just a week!
The woman gave Hill more than $80,000 to put toward the purchase of a house after he told her they should live together and even took her house shopping. But as soon as sis gave him the money, Hill allegedly ghosted her and stopped all contact.
The woman told police she met Hill on Match.com on March 27th and the two met in person later that day.
‘During their short romance, he convinced her that they were in love and wanted to buy a house together,’ Gwinnett spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said. ‘They went house-hunting and selected a home they were interested in.’
Within a week of knowing one another, Hill and the woman agreed to get married, Pihera added.
‘Following the exchange of money, the suspect ceased all contact,’ Pihera said.
Hill is also suspected of defrauding women in four other states, according to authorities.
Investigators learned that Hill lives in an apartment in Duluth with another woman and a child. Authorities said Hill has changed his name more than five times in the past three years and is suspected of committing similar scams in Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.
Whew! What are y’all thoughts on this one, Roommates?
