Company Suspends Production Of Corona And Other Beers Amid Viral Pandemic, After Being Deemed As Non-Essential By Mexican Government

#Roomies, alcohol sales may be up, but the production of Corona and other beers is coming to a halt.

Grupo Modelo has decided to pause production, during the #COVID19 pandemic, after being deemed as non-essential.

In a statement, the company stated,

“Grupo Modelo announces that this Sunday it will complete the process of suspending its production and marketing operations for beer,” wrote Grupo Modelo, per a translation of its press release.

The company stated that production was decreased before but is now halted, for the time being.

Unfortunately, when the viral pandemic started to increase in the United States, people stated they would no longer drink the brand.

In one survey, 38 percent of surveyed American beer drinkers said they would not buy Corona beer “under any circumstances,” CBS News reported on March 1.

According to Nielsen, alcohol sales increased to 55%, in the U.S., the  week ending March 21.

Tequila, gin, and pre-mixed drinks are responsible for that spike with 75% of an increase. Not shocking, wine sales have also increased by 66% with beer sales rising by 44%. Nielsen also reports that online sales increased by 254%
