Roomies, if y’all are waiting for the sequel of “Coming 2 America,” you don’t have to wait any longer. According to IndieWire, the sequel of 1988 Eddie Murphy classic, has reportedly been sold to Amazon Studios for a total of $125 million and will be available December 18th.
According to Variety, the movie is set to premiere on Amazon Prime December 18th, presumably bypassing theaters amid struggles for the exhibition sector during the pandemic, Indie Wire reports.
As previously reported, Coming 2 America focuses on Prince Akeem returning to America when he discovers he has a long-lost son. The film will be directed by Craig Brewer with a script by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and is set to hit theaters in 2020.
The movie gon’ be lit because several people have reprised their roles. As we previously reported Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, John Amos, Paul Bates, Wesley Snipes, KiKi Layne, Rick Ross, Leslie Jones and Jermaine Fowler will be part of the ‘Coming 2 America’ cast.
Just last month, Eddie Murphy just won his first Emmy for his guest role on ‘Saturday Night Live’.
This was the 59-year old’s first nomination in 21 years but his fifth nomination overall. He was last nominated in 1999 for outstanding animated program (for programming one hour or less) for Fox’s The PJs, according to People.
In December, Murphy reprised some of his most iconic SNL characters when he hosted the show for the first time in 35 years.
