Colin Kaepernick Commercial Wins Creative Arts Emmy

Although the 2019 Emmy telecast doesn’t air until September 22nd, the Creative Arts Emmys have already been handed out and one of the notable winners just happens to be Colin Kaepernick. His highly-publicized Nike commercial took the top honors in quite competitive category.

If you’ll recall Trump was furious at the Nike ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, going so far as to say (among other things) that it sends a “terrible message.” Fortunately, the Emmy voters didn’t agree and as reported by @huffpost, the ad won the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy for Best Commercial.

The commercial is a tribute those who dream “dream crazy,” a message which goes alongside Nike’s long-standing “just do it” slogan. Serena Williams and LeBron James were just some of the many athletes who made appearances in the commercial, which was narrated by Kaepernick stating, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

Despite Trump’s rants and continuous bashing of the commercial, Nike sales reportedly soared after it debuted, with many commenting how well done the commercial was at getting Kaepernick’s message across.

Other Creative Arts Emmy winners this year include Ava DuVernay’s masterpiece When They See Us about the Central Park Five and popular reality competition show RuPaul’s Drag Race, which nabbed its fourth Emmy in a row for Best Reality Series.
