Coi Leray recently hit the Twitter timeline with quite the suggestion: an all-woman rap collab to skyrocket to the top of the charts!
On Tuesday evening, Coi took a moment to acknowledge that 2023 hasn’t seen a rap project top the charts yet, as reported by Billboard earlier this week. Notably, the publication notes that such a dry spell for hip-hop hasn’t occurred in three decades.
In response to the situation, Coi called “all the female rappers to the front” and suggested, “Let’s make history with a number 1 … together.”
“Ain’t been a #1 rap song at all this year. Calling all the female rappers to the front. [Hear] me out. Ladies night. Hip hop. Unity. Let’s make history with a number 1… together .. with love.”
While Coi Leray noted the suggestion was “just an idea,” her fans were supportive. Additionally, they proceeded to throw out names for the prospective project.
With Coi Leray putting this prospect on the table and getting support from her fans, we’ll just have to wait and see if such a collab makes it onto her upcoming sophomore album, which drops later this month.
In the meantime, people can look back on some of the other all-woman projects that we’ve been blessed with.
One beloved example is Lil’ Kim‘s “Ladies Night Remix” to “Not Tonight,” which featured Missy Elliott, Da Brat, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Angie Martinez.
Another star-studded collab that brought together female rappers, R&B singers, and actresses in “Melanin.” This positive Ciara track brought together City Girls, Lupita Nyong’o, Esther Dean, and La La Anthony for a noteworthy bop.
Other all-woman projects that also deserve a shoutout include “Lady Marmalade” (Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya, and Lil’ Kim), “Bang Bang” (Jessie J, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande), and “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” (Madonna, M.I.A., and Nicki Minaj).
