Chris Smith, a former defensive end for the NFL Cleveland Browns team, has reportedly passed away. According to TMZ, the news arrived via Smith’s agent Drew Rosenhaus.
According to the outlet, the former defensive end passed away at 31.
Rosenhaus shared the news via Twitter Tuesday morning when he replied to a tweet that mentioned Smith’s passing.
“Rest in Peace Chris. You will be missed.”
Rosenhaus followed up by sharing a tweet of his own, paying tribute to Smith.
The Cleveland Browns NFL team also confirmed Smith’s passing via a tweet shared on Tuesday.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Browns DE Chris Smith. Chris was one of the kindest people, teammates and friends we’ve had in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
Smith’s former girlfriend, B. Simone, also took to social media to share a few words regarding the NFL player’s sudden passing. As The Shade Room previously reported, the two split in July 2021. It’s unclear how long the two were dating.
“One of the ONLY things in life that is promised, is death. Love on people when they are physically here , and if you truly love them cover them in prayer. God is a God of no mistakes even when you are grieving or hurt. Trust him He won’t fail you … Life is precious”
According to TMZ, details regarding Chris Smith’s passing remain unclear.
Additionally, the outlet reports that Smith was “starting a new career in the XFL” and just signed with the Seattle Sea Dragons on March 9.
Sadly, Smith leaves behind a daughter named Haven. In 2019, the child’s mother and Smith’s fiancée, Petara Cordero, lost her life when the two were pulled over on the side of a Cleveland highway. The pair had reportedly blown a tire, and when Cordero stepped out of the vehicle, she was struck by an oncoming driver, as per Daily Mail.
We send our prayers and condolences to Smith’s family and friends.
