Legendary actress #CicelyTyson is set to be honored by Turner Classic Movies at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood next month! The 93-year-old has been in the film industry for 60 years so the actress is getting a hand and footprint ceremony—just like all of the greats! This will take place on April 27th during the ninth annual TCM Classic Film Festival on April 27.
Just add this to the list of honors that have already been bestowed on her such as the Presidential Medal of Freedom, winning a Tony Award and two Emmys plus earning an Oscar nomination. She also has honors from the Kennedy Center and the NAACP!
“For decades, Tyson has been at the forefront of a shift away from clichéd, stereotypical characters of color to playing multi-dimensional, strong black women,” Ben Mankiewicz, TCM Primetime Host, said in a statement.
“Whether she’s playing a beleaguered mother-in-law on Broadway in ‘The Trip to Bountiful’ (and winning a Tony), or a woman who endures the black experience in America from slavery to civil rights in ‘The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman’ (and winning an Emmy), or the proud and resilient matriarch of a depression era Louisiana family in ‘Sounder’ (and earning an Oscar nomination), Cicely Tyson has set a standard of excellence for actresses of all backgrounds on the stage and screen.”
Now, THAT was a quick history lesson for some of y’all! Congratulations, Cicely and keep slaying us!!!
