19-year-old Kajuan Raye was shot and killed by Chicago police.
The assaulting sergeant, whose name is yet to be released responded to a “battery in progress” claim near Ogden Park Wednesday evening.
The sergeant claims that Kajuan was not only armed, but pointed his weapon at him. Authorities have not recovered the alleged weapon yet.
“We were not able to locate a weapon [of Raye’s] as of yet,” police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Thursday. “There’s still many unanswered questions and we are working diligently to find those answers.”
Kajuan allegedly fit the description of the suspect the police were called about. According to CNN, when the sergeant approached him, he took off running. Not too long after that is when the sergeant claims Kajuan pointed a weapon at him two different times during the chase.
“The sergeant then told investigators that the offender turned and pointed a weapon in the direction of the sergeant on two separate occasions during the pursuit,” Johnson said.
Fortunately, two surveillance cameras caught the chase. Unfortunately, the shooting did not get caught on camera.
Following routine protocol, the officer will be placed on administrative leave and will be off of patrol for at least 30 days.
Kajuan’s family says he was fun and loving. Our prayers are with them during this time.
