Fans were out in Kansas City celebrating the Chiefs big win, and ahead of the parade, they were shocked to see a police chase enter in the area of where the parade was being held.
41 Actions News shared videos from onlookers who witnessed the chase, which ended on the parade’s grounds. According to Sports Illustrated, police took two people into custody and are still investigating the incident. However, no injuries have been reported.
The parade was scheduled to begin at 11:30 am CT, and fans were already lined up along the route when the chase started. A green sedan made its way past a barrier on the north end of the route before making its way down most of the length of the parade route.
Kansas City Police Department Sgt. Jake Becchina reportedly told a local station that driver impairment may have been a factor in the incident. He also clarified that the chase was not an act of terrorism and no explosives or weapons were found in the vehicle.
Mayor Quinton Lucas took to Twitter and said, “Appreciate the quick action of the @kcpolice ending a chase of a suspected impaired driver at the parade route. We’ll stay vigilant about the threats like these throughout the day.”
The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years after they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.
