It takes a real one to apologize! Charlamagne Tha God is always one to speak his mind. However, he knows how to admit when he is in the wrong. Today he cleared the air and apologized live on “The Breakfast Club” this morning for comments he previously made about former basketball player Kwame Brown. If you recall, Kwame came for Charlamagne and others who talked down on him throughout his 13-year NBA career. Kwame was formally the number one draft pick, but many felt that he didn’t live up to his full potential. Kwame commented on Instagram live about Charlamagne’s criminal history, which includes an alleged charge for criminal sexual conduct with a minor in 2001, although the charges were dropped.
Charlamagne initially told folks to lay off Kwame, a fellow South Carolina native but talked about Kwame’s family’s violent history. According to Charlamagne, both families have crossed paths throughout his upbringing. In the apology video, which is trending number two on Youtube, Charlemagne gives himself the “Donkey of the Day” title for his actions. “I want to apologize to Kwame Brown and Kwame Brown’s family,” Charlamagne started. “I want to apologize to his father Bill Brown and the family of Bill Brown. In my attempt to defend a Charleston, South Carolina brother, I revealed too much information about that man’s family.”
He continued, “When I look back on the way that I communicated that, I communicated that all wrong. And I unintentionally triggered trauma in a lot of folks I grew up with that I genuinely love. I’m sure I caused a lot of pain for not only Kwame Brown but his entire family.”
Shortly after Kwame released a video in response to the apology but stated he would fully address it once he got off his tractor. Roomies, we’ll keep ya’ll posted if he says anything else.
