Authorities have hit Damaris Milton, 44, with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the Orlando, Florida, native harmed several people at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
According to Atlanta News First, the matter unfolded on Wednesday (Oct. 11), and a taxi driver named Selemon Melkamu is believed to have been the first victim.
In an incident report released on Thursday (Oct. 12), an officer noted that Milton allegedly stabbed Melkamu near his shoulder while on the road before tossing his phone out the window.
“During this travel to the airport, Mr. Melkamu explained that he was stabbed in his right upper chest near his shoulder on 285 South after passing the international exit sign. He stated that Ms. Milton reached for his phone and then threw his phone out of the window onto the interstate.”
WRDW reports that, by the time officers arrived at the scene, Milton was allegedly in the airport “swip[ing] her knife” at a Delta employee, who reportedly sustained a cut.
Notably, officers’ attempts to tase Milton proved unsuccessful due to the thickness of her garments.
“The Taser deployed and hit the pants legs, since Ms. Milton wore multiple pants legs, the taser did not make contact in the skin.”
While attempting to detain her, Atlanta Police Department Lieutenant David Cannon slipped on pepper spray before sustaining a stab wound to his leg, per Atlanta News First.
As of Thursday afternoon, WSB-TV reports that medical professionals are treating the taxi driver and Delta employee for their injuries. Regarding the police officer, he’s now recovering at his home.
That same day, Milton appeared in court, where she reportedly lashed out after Judge John Parker inquired if she wanted a public defender.
In turn, she allegedly replied, “Y’all already said what y’all are going to do to me. Why am I answering any questions?”
According to Clayton County Jail records, Damaris Milton is in jail without bond.
