That time of the year has come again when the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced the nominees for its upcoming class. There are some artists that are being nominated for the first time, and there are some artists that have been previously nominated, with hopes of them soon being inducted.
According to Billboard, the legendary Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G are among this year’s nominees. This is Chaka Khan’s fourth nomination, while this is Whitney and Biggie’s first nomination for the hall of fame.
If Biggie gets inducted, he would become the second rapper to join the hall of fame, with Tupac being the first one inducted back in 2017. In order to be eligible for a hall of fame nomination, “an artist’s first commercial recording must have been released 25 years prior to the year of induction.”
The other nominees include Dave Matthews Band, Motorhead, Pat Benatar, Soundgarden, The Doobie Brothers, T.Rex and Thin Lizzy, Nine Inch Nails, Judas Priest, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, MC5 and Todd Rundgren.
For the past few years, the induction ceremony has taken place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. However, the 2020 ceremony will be taking place at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio on May 2, 2020. Fans have the opportunity to vote now until January 10, 2020.
Congrats to the nominees!
