Many fans across the world continue to mourn Chadwick Boseman following his unexpected passing back in August. However, the work that has left behind, and his legacy also continues to be honored.
On Friday, MTV announced that the late actor will be honored with the “Hero for the Ages” Award at the 2020 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time special, which is airing on Sunday. Chadwick’s Avengers co-stars Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. are set to present the award.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Hero for the Ages” Award is presented to a star whose “heroism on-screen was only surpassed by the true hero they were off-screen.”
Back in 2018, MTV honored Chadwick with the “Best Hero” Award at the MTV Movie Awards, and he gave the award to James Shaw Jr. who was the Waffle House hero who helped save lives as he fought off a gunman at the restaurant in Antioch, Tennessee.
At the time during his acceptance speech, Chadwick said, “Receiving an award for playing a superhero is amazing, but it’s even greater to acknowledge the heroes we have in real life.”
As many of you know, Chadwick Boseman, unfortunately, lost his battle to colon cancer, after he secretly battled the disease. The news of his passing sent shock waves throughout the world as many fans and peers were unaware of Chadwick’s battle.
In the official announcement of his passing, it was revealed that he has been diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer back in 2016 and battled it for four years, but unfortunately, it had progressed to Stage IV.
Nonetheless, he continued to fight through and still film his movies, and bring us the many characters we have grown to love.
His final film Netflix’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” is set to premiere on December 18th.
The 2020 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest Of All Time airs on Sunday, December 6th, and will be hosted by Vanessa Hudgens.
