The late actor Chadwick Boseman received many nods of recognition at the 2023 Oscars ceremony and his family is extremely appreciative, as reported by TMZ.
Boseman was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2016, as reported by The New York Times. But went on to build an impressive acting resume, becoming revered for his roles as T’Challa in Black Panther, Thurgood Marshall in Marshall, and James Brown in Get On Up. Unfortunately, the 43-year-old actor lost his life to the disease on August 28, 2020.
Chadwick Boseman’s cousin, Allen Boseman, is also an attorney who represents the Boseman family. He spoke exclusively with TMZ and shared the family’s sentiments about the 2023 Oscars. As well as the homage the ceremony paid to the late actor.
“It’s been incredible how Chadwick has been received by the entire Hollywood family and how his legacy continues to live on.”
Boseman continued, explaining that the entire family regards Chadwick as a “real king.”
“Even though he’s physically gone his spirit remains in the hearts and minds of his peers and fellow actors and actresses on Hollywood’s biggest stage. While he was a figurative king in the movie, he appears to be a real king to many others, including those in our family.”
Singer Rihanna took to the stage at the 2023 Oscars and performed “Lift Me Up,” a single from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rihanna co-wrote the song, which is also a tribute to the late Boseman.
Ruth E. Carter, the costume designer for the Black Panther trilogy, also make astounding Oscar history at the 2023 ceremony. Carter took home the award for Best Costume Design for her work in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carter is the “first Black woman to win two Oscars.” Additionally, Carter is the “first designer to win for both an original film and its sequel.”
According to TMZ, Carter made a “moving tribute” to Boseman and her late mother during her acceptance speech, asking the late actor, “please take care of mom.”
