On Monday morning, Anthony took to his social media accounts to share a brief video with his fans.

In the clip, Anthony recounted his 19 years in the league. He explained that he is “forever grateful” for the “people and places” that supported him over his career. However, “the time has come” for him to say “goodbye.”

“With this bittersweet goodbye to the NBA, I am excited about what the future holds for me…”

He explained that he is often asked about what he believes his legacy is. However, he believes his “story has always been more than basketball.”

“My legacy, my son, is in you. I will forever continue through you…”

“Because the time has come for you to carry this torch… So Ki — chase your dreams. Let nothing hold you back. Let nothing intervene. My legacy, now and forever, lives on through you. And I’ll always be proud of all that you do…”

According to CNN, Melo’s departure from the NBA league arrives after the 38-year-old has made 10 NBA All-Star appearances. Additionally, his scoring record, which equals 28,289 points, has landed him the ninth spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Furthermore, Anthony has played for six teams in the NBA, including the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers. He has even won three Olympic gold medals.
