Summer Walker tapped on Cardi B to join her hit track ‘No Love’ featuring SZA. The original song is one of 18 on Summer’s 2021 album Still Over It. Following its March 25 release, the extended version is already high on the list of online talk. And much of the attention on the record has fallen on Cardi’s feature.
The artist chose to lean more into her vocals rather than her usual rap flow and punchy lines. More than 12 hours after the song and music video dropped, Cardi addressed chit-chat about her vocals on the track.
“If y’all think ya can out sing my vocals on the no love extended version you’re a clown,” Cardi tweeted. “Let me see y’all do it, any b***h that beats Bardi Barey I’ll give them a 1k, them vocal is raw!”
After The Shade Room posted her tweet, Cardi hopped in the comment section with additional words.
“Ya be hating BARDI J BLIGE …..I JUST WANNA BEee EVERYTHING YOU NEEEEED,” she wrote.
The four-and-a-half minute video begins with a shot of Cardi and Summer sitting on a canopy bed while it floats on pink and purple clouds. After a short vocal intro by Summer, Cardi follows with her own vocals–gently spitting her lyrics.
“Cause you been playin’ I’ve been loyal, no questions, boy,” Cardi sing-raps on the record. “I’ve been ten toes down (Ten toes down)/ Had communications with n****s that wanna be around.”
Cardi prepared fans for a different sound ahead of the song’s release.
“Ommmmmggg I’m soooo excited and nervous,” Cardi wrote as the caption of the cover art posted to her Instagram page. “I have never sounded the way I do on this record but I love it.”
According to Chart Data, the extended song has landed at number 74 on the US Spotify chart following 372,000 streams. It has also entered the top 10 on US iTunes.
And the music video to the remixed single features all three stars serving sultry, seductive and empowered vibes. It has bounced between trending in first and second place on YouTube US.
Prior to the extended song’s release, Cardi and Summer chopped it up on Instagram Live. Cardi spoke on her nerves when she received the opportunity to join.
“I was like stuck, I was like sh*t I don’t know what the f**k to do,” Cardi said. “Cause this is one of my favorite songs…it’s an amazing song…I’m like ‘oh my goodness I’m scared because this is like one of the best songs and everyone loves this song.’ And it’s like I don’t want to get on it and people not like it and everything, but I think I did good.”
Later in the live, Summer gave Cardi credit for being easy to work with.
“I also want to tell you thank you for just being humble as f**k and being hella nice and not making sh*t difficult,” Summer said to Cardi. “Not being rude, not being stuck-up, none of that. You were so down to Earth and I appreciate it so much.”
