Cam Newton Reportedly Tests Positive For COVID-19

It looks like the NFL has been affected by COVID-19 once again, and this time one of its star players has caught the virus.

On Saturday it was reported that Cam Newton has tested positive for the virus. According to ESPN, it was first reported that Cam was to miss the New England Patriots game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but ultimately the game was postponed to Monday or Tuesday after it was revealed that there were positive cases on both teams.

The NFL said in a statement, “A final determination won’t be made until the league gets back more test results Sunday.”

The Patriots also spoke out in a statement and said, “Late last night, we received notice that a Patriots player tested positive for COVID-19. The player immediately entered self-quarantine. Several additional players, coaches, and staff who have been in close contact with the player received point of care tests this morning and all were negative for COVID-19.”

Sources also revealed that Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu tested positive for the virus. He played the role of Cam during the Chiefs’ preparation for this week’s game.

Cam Newton joined the Patriots this season after he was previously let go by the Carolina Panthers.
