Governor Gavin Newsom recently said he would never challenge Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency if Biden steps down.
Yahoo! News reports the politician remains supportive of President Biden despite Democratic talks of replacing the 81-year-old as the presidential nominee.
Newsom stated on July 10 that he would not challenge the vice president, who is a top pick to take over, should Biden decide to give up his campaign. Furthermore, he thinks Kamala could beat Trump, but he stated it’s “not going to come to that.” Both politicians came up in the Bay Area political world and became highly respected politicians. If the California governor did choose to run, it could cause the party to split, in addition to the donations.
Joe has continuously said he is fit to run and will not give up his fight for another term. Newson stated he is standing by President Biden and whatever decision he makes. “I think I’ve had 100 media outlets asking the same question, and I think that I’ve amply answered my support for the president…” Newson said Wednesday at a news conference about California’s wildfire.
Nancy Pelosi told MSNBC, “It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run.” The former House Speaker stated, “We’re all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short.” The Governor noted that he had not heard Pelosi’s comments or read actor George Clooney’s LA Times opinion piece requesting Biden’s replacement.
Furthermore, as previously reported by The Shade Room, a Tampa City councilman and Democratic National Committee member, Alan Clendenin, said Joe should “step aside and allow Vice President Kamala Harris to carry forward his agenda as our Democratic nominee.”
Only time will tell if some of the Dems will get their wish.
