#Roommates, some serious #BlackGirl Magic has taken over the Guinness Book Of World Records thanks to an Afro that natural hair girls can be proud of. Brooklyn’s own Simone Williams has officially broken the world record for having the biggest Afro…and looking gorgeous while doing so!
@NYPost reports, Brooklyn resident Simone Williams has made Black women very proud with her recent record-breaking achievement. Her luscious Afro has officially been certified as the biggest in the world by the Guinness Book Of World Records. Her Afro measures in at 8.07 inches tall, 8.85 inches wide and over 4-foot-10-inches in circumference. Williams revealed it took her nine years to grow her Afro, after years of getting perms and straightening her hair. “I chose to transition [to natural hair] around the age of 23. It began because I wanted to save the money spent at the hair salon to help with the costs of moving into my first apartment,” she said.
She also stated that she doesn’t go to salons, however she does admit that “maintaining my afro can be a task, especially when it comes to detangling.” “I wash it once a week or every two weeks. It takes about six hours to dry since I normally do not use a blow-dryer, to avoid heat damage.” Williams said she doesn’t generally style it, but if there’s an occasion “my go-to styles are a curly voluminous afro, a high puff or top bun,” which can take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour.
As for what products she uses to maintain her Afro crown, she stated that she only sticks to three: Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist, Shea Moisture Coconut + Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Eco Style Olive Oil Gel. “From the beginning, my natural hair has been a journey,” she told Guinness. “I most definitely see it as my statement piece.”
