In a highly anticipated move, the Los Angeles Lakers have officially drafted Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James.
The New York Times reports this historic moment marks the culmination of years of speculation and the realization of a dream shared by the Laker’s leader. However, Bronny joining his father’s team subsequently sparked a debate about “nepotism.”

The 19-year-old was the 55th overall pick and will sport gold and purple alongside his pops in the next NBA season. Bronny has been under a microscope for the better part of the last decade as he has competed on the hardwood. Bronny attended Southern California as the 17th-best high school prospect in his class.
As previously reported by The Shade Room, he entered the draft after only playing for a year at the institution. LeBron’s son struggled to land baskets and averaged 4.8 points and 19.3 minutes in 25 games. Furthermore, critics began to question if he could play professionally when he faced health issues. Bronny went into cardiac arrest during a USC practice game in July 2023. However, he eventually made a full recovery.
