Whew! Britney Spears is not letting up on her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears. According to USA Today, Britney sent Jamie a cease-and-desist letter on Monday. The date marked one day before the release of Jamie’s new memoir Things I Should Have Said. However, news of the letter began spreading on Wednesday. Britney and her lawyer Matthew Rosengart didn’t hold back in the straightforward document.
Cease-And-Desist Letter
“We write with some hesitation because the last thing Britney wants is to bring more attention to your ill-timed book and its misleading or outrageous claims about her,” the letter said. “Although Britney has not read and does not intend to read your book, she and millions of her fans were shocked to see how you have exploited her for monetary gain. She will not tolerate it, nor should she.”
The letter also quoted Jamie’s “ruinous” description of their father. It also said that Jamie knows of the “abuse and wrongdoing” Britney endured from their father. As previously reported, Jamie Lynn gave ‘Good Morning America’ an exclusive interview about the contents in her book and relationship with her sister.
Social Media Exchanges
Following the appearance, both sisters addressed each other on social media with lengthy posts. In a statement last week, Jamie stated her book is not about Britney after her sister’s posts alleged the opposite. On Tuesday, the eldest sister went viral for saying she should’ve slapped Jamie and their mother across the face.
“As I have previously stated, having endured a 13-year conservatorship that stripped her of civil rights and fundamental liberties, Britney will no longer be bullied by her father or anyone else,” the letter stated. “Britney was the family’s breadwinner and she also otherwise supported you. Publicly airing false or fantastical grievances is wrong, especially when designed to sell books.”
Matthew also said Jamie has no excuse for speaking about Britney in this “potentially unlawful and defamatory way.”
The letter demands that Jamie “cease and desist from referencing Britney derogatorily during [her] promotional campaign.” If Jamie continues telling these alleged vault stories, Britney will be “forced to consider and take all appropriate legal action.”
