On Tuesday morning, the man accused of murdering Atlanta rapper Trouble surrendered to authorities. Police believe Jamichael Jones shot and killed Trouble on the morning of June 5. The artist, real name Mariel Semonte Orr, was 34 years old.
At the time, Trouble was visiting a female friend at her apartment in Conyers—located near Atlanta, Georgia. Jamichael fled the scene following the shooting, but police later issued arrest warrants for the 33-year-old.
According to booking details, Jamichael faces multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and first-degree home invasion. He also faces a family violence battery charge.
On Tuesday, Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett credited Jamichael’s mother with her son’s surrender, per WSB-TV Atlanta. Deputies reportedly executed a ‘Knock and Talk’ method to locate Jamichael, which involved visiting places familiar to the suspect. His surrender took place in a Clayton County hospital parking lot after Jamichael contacted his mother about surrendering peacefully.
Jedidia Canty, the public information officer for Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, shared that deputies responded to a shooting at Lake St. James Apartments at about 3:20 a.m. on Sunday.
“Upon deputies’ arrival, they observed a Black male lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound,” PIO Jedidia said at a press conference. “Unfortunately, the victim did die on the scene.”
PIO Jedidia also said that Jamichael “did know the female, and it was a domestic situation.” However, Trouble did not know the accused shooter. The artist died from a single gunshot to the chest fired inside the apartment.
Hours after his arrest, Jamichael went before a judge who set his preliminary hearing for June 15, according to CBS46 Atlanta reporter Tori Cooper. Additionally, the judge denied the bond for Jamichael.
